Study Abroad 2018 – 2019

A Distance Learning Program In Gestalt Awareness Practice

Abroad: in different directions; over a wide area.
“millions of seeds are annually scattered abroad”
in circulation, widely current, in the air,
“here, there, and everywhere”

Christine Price, Sharon Terry, and Rudi Price-Waldrip are offering an eight month program for those who want to deepen and maintain Gestalt Awareness Practice (GAP) within their daily life and in community with others. In order to offer a web of support that goes beyond physical proximity, we have designed Study Abroad to be a mix of retreats, local meetings, and distance learning.
We realize the need for a program that can be customized, allowing flexibility while maintaining core unity. Designed as overlapping Circles, Study Abroad allows individuals to craft a program that meets their level of interest, commitment, and available resources.
Applicants must have completed an Intro to GAP and Open Seat Intensive in the last four years. Those who need to fulfill that requirement can attend the Intro to GAP in November and the Open Seat in December.
The initial webinar will be on November 3, 2018.  The in-person retreat is scheduled for January 4-10, 2019 in Aptos, CA, and the program will finish in June.

Practice Circle

(7 hours per month)

Practice Circle is designed for participants who wish to thoroughly integrate the essential practices of GAP, on their own and with others. Participants commit to the following:

  • Reading Gestalt Therapy Verbatim before January

Personal Practice

  • Daily practice: “5-minute pause” for present centered awareness. This can be done at ones’ convenience and may be done collectively with others through WhatsApp (a social media platform).
  • Weekly practice: 15 minutes of taking your seat, basic breath practice and a written continuum of awareness posted to WhatsApp.
  • Monthly practice: One self-selected day of “retreat in action” where practice is incorporated throughout the day in a structured way.

Partner Practice

  • Monthly meeting with a fellow student following a curriculum design (1.5 hours). This can happen in person, by phone or on digital video
  • A written check-in with the faculty.
  • Participants will also have the opportunity to join a faculty member and other students in a monthly video conference “group room”. In these meetings we will share the essential practices of take our seat, basic breath and continuum of awareness. A brief circle check-in may also be included. These meetings are optional and will last about one hour.

This Circle is designed for participants who, in addition to the experiential emphasis of the Practice Circle, would like to study the fundamental structures of GAP and the theories that support those structures. This additional study is for anyone interested in exploring the map as well as the experience including those who intend to bring elements of GAP into their professional life.

Study Circle participants commit to all Practice Circle curriculum. In addition, Study Circle includes the following required curriculum:
